Deliverables
The SUBMERSE project has a range of deliverables associated with the activities. These will be made available on this page once published.Opportunities and policy perspectives of subsea fibre-sensing technology

Published date | 21 April 2026
This policy brief highlights the potential of the technology and innovative methods deployed in SUBMERSE project, while reflecting on core challenges around data governance, integration into existing research infrastructures (RIs) and coordination across varied regulatory environments. Furthermore, it discusses the importance of the security and resilience of submarine cables, in line with recent geopolitical developments.
D1.5 Data Management Plan and Data Policy (Final)

Published date | 29 January 2026
This Data Management Plan outlines the principles, workflows, and responsibilities guiding the management of Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS), transponder based State of Polarisation (SOP), polarimeter based SOP, Radio Frequency Optical Time Domain Reflectometry (RF OTDR), SOP OTDR, and derived datasets produced within SUBMERSE, a Horizon Europe project developing a novel research instrument based on live submarine fibre-optic communication cables
Fibre Optic Sensing Security Architecture - A SUBMERSE White Paper
![]()
Published date | 10 March 2025
The SUBMERSE project explores Fiber Optic Sensing (FOS) as a tool for diverse research fields, applying the technology's ability to detect subtle acoustics, strain as well as slight pressure and temperature changes along underwater fibre optic cables.
D3.1 Interim report on data handling, software development and use cases, including prototype versions of selected software modules

Published date | 6 December 2024
This report describes progress on developing scientific and societal relevant applications of the DAS fibre technologies. Much of the effort was focussed on developing and implementing methods for analysis of Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) data based on open datasets worldwide, although first site-specific observational results are being generated from the Madeira site.
D2.4 State of Polarisation Design and Infrastructure Integration Model
![]()
Published date | 24 November 2024
This deliverable summarises the work done in the state of polarization (SoP) Task In WP2 and sets parameters and principles for the integration of SoP measuring devices into the infrastructure engaged in the SUBMERSE project.
D4.5 Exploitation and Sustainability - Interim report

Published date | 31 October 2024
This deliverable will outline an initial set of ideas on sustainability and exploitation of project's results. This interim report includes an analysis of pathways to impact emerging from the project activities and how the consortium is preparing actions for sustainability regarding key concepts such as governance, funding schemes, infrastructure maintenance, data management and uptake as well as legal and security issues.
D2.6 Data Pre-processing Report
![]()
Published date | 28 October 2024
This report presents the results of distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) and state of polarisation (SOP) data pre-processing stages and implementation. Data pre-processing is the essential step in the data management pipeline that involves cleaning, transforming, and organising raw data to prepare it for analysis or model training.
D2.7 Initial report on the architecture used for the design, implementation, and integration scenarios of AAI, Monitoring Service, PID Service
![]()
Published date | 30 July 2024
This document outlines the current design that is being worked towards by the SUBMERSE consortium partners to realise the aims of the project. The system itself is composed of multiple parts. These include the sensing equipment, the storage and processing facilities, the dissemination facilities, the network which connects all the equipment together, the access control system, and the synchronisation of time and software across each of the sites.
D2.1 SUBMERSE Technical Architecture Report

Published date | 26 April 2024
This document outlines the current technical architecture of the SUBMERSE system. It covers the principles used to develop the architecture, underlying technologies which acquire data from fibre optic cables, the supporting services to store, process and make available the data.
Data Management Plan (Version 1.0)

Published date | 4 December 2023
The data management procedures that are developed and implemented during the SUBMERSE project are presented in this document as a first version 1, in that it is an integral part of the SUBMERSE project to devise an optimal management for the very complex SUBMERSE data – continuously streamed, in vast quantities, from several locations, with several bottom-of-ocean sensors, potentially providing highly sensitive data.
D4.2 Stakeholder Engagement and Outreach Plan

Published date | 1 December 2023
This deliverable describes the Stakeholder Engagement and Outreach Plan for the SUBMarine cablEs for ReSearch and Exploration (SUBMERSE) project. The deliverable is related to Task 4.2 Stakeholder Engagement and Outreach and provides the objective and approach for identifying and engaging with the stakeholders relevant for the purpose of the project.
D4.1 Project Communications Strategy and Plan

Published date | 22 September 2023
This deliverable describes the communications strategy and plan for the SUBMERSE project.
